LONGMONT - AVA Solar Inc., which produces low-cost, thin-film photovoltaic solar panels, has changed its name to Abound Solar Inc., the company announced Monday.
Fort Collins-based Abound Solar, which has 180 employees companywide, employs about 110 people at its manufacturing facility in Longmont.
The facility is still being organized and in the preproduction phase, but it's expected to be commercially operational in the second quarter of this year, said Mark Chen, Abound's marketing director.
"We believe we are well-positioned to address the growing demand for solar power, and we are focused on scaling to create a source of renewable, abundant and universally affordable energy," Pascal Noronha, Abound's chief executive officer, said in a statement.
The company changed its name, which comes from the word abundance, to reflect its focus on creating low-cost solar panels accessible to everyone. Abound also created a new logo and Web site (www.aboundsolar.com).
Abound formed in 2007 with technology developed at Colorado State University.
