FAFCO Solar Water Heating Systems Receive First and Only IAPMO Certification in the United States

CHICO, CA--(Marketwire - April 1, 2009) - FAFCO, the oldest and largest solar water heating manufacturer in the United States, has become the first and only U.S. manufacturer to receive IAPMO (the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials) certification for a complete solar water heating system. FAFCO also has a separate IAPMO approval specifically for its solar thermal collector.

IAPMO is North America's premier plumbing and mechanical product certification agency. IAPMO has been protecting the public's health and safety for more than 80 years by working in concert with government and industry to implement comprehensive plumbing and mechanical systems around the world. It is accredited by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Standards Council of Canada (SCC). IAPMO Research and Testing Marks of Conformity are widely recognized and represent the highest degree of integrity in showing compliance with established codes and standards.

"This is a huge accomplishment as well as a significant milestone for FAFCO," said Robert Leckinger, president of FAFCO Inc. "The IAPMO certification sets FAFCO's solar water heating systems miles apart from its competitors. FAFCO is the first and only U.S. manufacturer to receive this high-level of distinction and quality validation. Homeowners now have a benchmark for comparison when considering solar water heating systems."

FAFCO solar water heating systems are designed to reduce water heating bills by up to 50%, and more, in sun states like Florida, Arizona, California and Hawaii. FAFCO solar water heating technology was developed through a ten-year collaboration with the Department of Energy.

FAFCO solar hot water systems replace heavy, expensive, difficult-to-ship and cumbersome to install, glazed and copper collectors with lightweight, inexpensive, easy-to-ship and easy-to-install polymer collectors. They are designed to work with any conventional residential hot water tank. The entire system fits in a single box and weighs just 70 pounds.

Homeowners can begin seeing a return on investment as soon as the system is installed. FAFCO systems typically pay for themselves in less than ten years, as compared to ten to twenty years with traditional glazed copper solar hot water systems. In addition, the systems are eligible for a 30% federal solar energy tax credit under the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006, which was extended through 2016.

FAFCO solar water heating systems were tested by an IAPMO Research and Testing recognized laboratory and verified to meet Uniform Code. This recognition has been granted based upon the laboratory's compliance to the applicable requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.
