Lightwave Power, Inc. Announces an NREL Award for the Photovoltaic Technology Incubator Program

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lightwave Power, Inc., a company focused on commercializing breakthrough improvements to solar cells and panels using novel light management films, together with Iowa State University, today announced the reception of a $450,000 award from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) as part of the Photovoltaic Technology Incubator Program. The total anticipated subcontracts under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, is $6 million.

The two organizations will partner to develop a novel roll-to-roll photonic-enhanced thin film solar cell. The new design is expected to lead to increased solar cell performance and decreased cost through increased long wavelength light absorption.

David Anthony, Managing Partner of 21Ventures who together with The Quercus Trust is an investor in Lightwave Power, said “This program is exciting and we expect it to lead to new ways to increase the performance and decrease the costs of solar cells.”
