MUNICH, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Solyndra, Inc., a manufacturer of cylindrical photovoltaic (PV) systems for large commercial rooftops, today announced that alwitra GmbH, a has completed a 1.02 MWp solar system, together with their highly reflective Evalon® waterproofing membrane and Solyndra solar panels, on a Parts Europe GmbH warehouse in Konz, Germany. The system is the largest Solyndra system in Germany to date, and the second largest worldwide. Alwitra GmbH is a Platinum Solyndra Solution Partner.
“On a rooftop of this size Parts Europe gets strong benefits from the highly reflective Evalon waterproofing membrane and the power generation of the Solyndra solar system,” said Clemens Jargon, Solyndra’s president of EMEA and managing director, Solyndra GmbH. “alwitra’s extensive knowledge of roof sealing and Solyndra’s PV systems allowed them to complete the entire project in less than 10 weeks.”
“The location and size of Parts Europe’s warehouse is absolutely predestined for the use of solar power generation. The unique design of Solyndra’s cylindrical, non-penetrating and very light panels made them the best solution for this large project,” said Joachim Gussner, President of alwitra. “Using Solyndra with our Evalon waterproofing membrane allows us to offer the building owner the best combination of roof sealing solution and a solar system that actually gets more power as a result of the reflective qualities of the roof.”
Parts Europe is a motorcycle accessories distributor and the rooftop is on a warehouse in Konz, near Trier, Germany. The project covered 13,000 square meters of rooftop with Evalon waterproofing membrane and approximately 10,700 square meters of rooftop with more than 5,400 Solyndra panels. More than 33,000 meters of cable were used in the project, which generates 1.023 MWp, or the equivalent of the annual power needed to supply 250 households.
