SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Solar3D, Inc. (OTCBB:SLTD), the developer of a breakthrough 3-dimensional solar cell technology to maximize the conversion of sunlight into electricity, today announced that the company is now publicly traded on the Over the Counter Bulletin Board (OTCBB) under the symbol “SLTD.”
“Solar3D’s new listing on the OTCBB is a major milestone in the company’s business strategy,” said Jim Nelson, CEO, Solar3D. “Now, new investors will have a chance to participate in the rapidly growing solar market with a next generation 3-dimensional solar cell.”
Inspired by light management techniques used in fiber optic devices, the company’s innovative solar cell technology utilizes a 3-dimensional design to trap sunlight inside micro-photovoltaic structures where photons bounce around until they are converted into electrons. The company’s management believes that this breakthrough solar cell will be dramatically more efficient, resulting in a lower cost per watt that will make solar power affordable for the world.
According to Mr. Nelson, “Despite the dramatic growth of the solar industry, solar electricity accounts for less than 1% of global electricity generation. To truly deliver solar power to the world, solar cells must become more efficient and convert more sunlight into electricity at a lower cost. We believe Solar3D’s breakthrough 3-dimensional solar cell technology is a unique solution that will help tip the solar cost curve in the direction of massive scalability and global deployment.”
“Our approach combines micro-photovoltaics and innovative light management in a 3D solar cell to achieve the high efficiencies of crystalline silicon at the low cost per watt of thin film,” commented Mr. Nelson. “Using 3D solar cells as the fundamental building blocks, highly efficient solar panels, arrays, and solar power plants can be created.”
